Building a stronger regional economy with more local jobs remains the key priority for Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt after being re-elected for a third time.

Speaking after the Declaration of the Poll in Bundaberg this afternoon Mr Pitt thanked voters in the electorate for putting their trust in him once again.

“Being elected for a third term is a humbling experience and I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of the volunteers, members and supporters from Bundaberg, right through to Hervey Bay and everywhere in between.

“I want to take this opportunity to reiterate what I said after the election, to the Labor voters who have put their trust in us for the first time, we won’t let you down.

“As stated throughout the campaign, my number one priority for this electorate is jobs. We’ve seen some positive signs with the youth unemployment rate falling in recent months, and I hope that trend continues.

“There are a number of projects which will create more local employment, including the Macadamia’s Australia expansion, as well as Bundaberg Brewed Drinks’ new super brewery.

“The Hinkler Regional Deal will grow the local economy with the expansion at the Hervey Bay Airport and the Hervey Bay CBD redevelopment in the southern end of the electorate and in the north, a multi-use conveyer belt at the Port of Bundaberg and an AgTech Precinct with CQUniversity, with bring about significant changes.

“I look forward to seeing the Hinkler Regional Deal develop further and seeing what projects and funding the two local councils and the Queensland State Labor Government will contribute.

“And lastly, I want to thank my family for their love and support throughout the campaign.”
