Upgrade for Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade

Thursday, 12 October 2017

A new communications room and training space has been made possible for the Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade thanks to a Stronger Communities Programme grant from the Federal Government.

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt congratulated the Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade which was awarded $6,000 to upgrade its facilities.

“The upgrade means members of the Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade can undertake skills training and they now have a communications hub for any fire-fighting activity in the area,” Mr Pitt said.

“The Stronger Communities Programme has been a boost for community groups and organisations like the Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade that would otherwise struggle to fund these types of improvements.”

Mr Pitt visited the upgraded facility this week with Gregory River Rural Fire Brigade first officer Rudy Stakenburg.

The Stronger Communities Programme offered eligible community groups grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 for small capital projects. All applications need to commit at least matching funding or in-kind contributions.

Round 3 of the Stronger Communities Program has now closed.
