A popular Federal Government program which has helped local community groups and not-for-profit organisations improve facilities and upgrade equipment is back.

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said expressions of interest can be submitted now for grants of between $2,500 and $20,000.

“The Stronger Communities Programme is an extremely popular funding program and I’m pleased it has been continued for another year,” Mr Pitt said.

“Funding of $150,000 is available for up to 20 small capital projects and equipment upgrades for local groups and organisations.

“Community groups bring people together by strengthening social connections and building community participation, whether it’s a local sporting club, a support group or volunteer organisation, you can find a group to join.

“Through the previous seven rounds of this program, more than 90 projects right across the Hinkler electorate have received funding.

“Projects have included a community bus, improved disability access at sporting grounds, upgraded kitchens and amenities blocks, shade sails and marquees, night vision goggles, little libraries and many more.”

Grant funding will be available for up to 100 per cent of eligible project costs except for local governing bodies where grant funding will be up to 50 per cent of eligible project costs. The maximum cost of the project cannot exceed $50,000.

Following the EOI process, a community panel will identify potential projects and make recommendations. Only applicants invited to apply by their MP will proceed to the formal application process.

Expressions of Interest must be received by the Hinkler electorate office by 5pm on Friday, 17 MARCH 2023 and can be emailed to: keith.pitt.mp@aph.gov.au or dropped into the Bundaberg or Hervey Bay electorate offices.
