Students in years 10, 11 and 12 are being encouraged to enter the national My First Speech competition.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said students from high schools across the Hinkler electorate can envision themselves as a newly elected Member of Parliament and what they might say in their first speech.
âThis is a great opportunity for our local students to shine a national spotlight on an issue that is important to them,â Mr Pitt said.
âSpeeches play an important role in the Parliament, whether itâs highlighting the achievements of a local constituent or organisation or putting forward my views on an issue or legislation.
âStudents need to record a 90-second speech on video on the topic of their choosing and submit it by 5pm on Friday, 11 August 2023.â
The winners, accompanied by a parent or guardian, will be flown to Canberra to deliver their speeches live at Parliament House and participate in an engaging program tailored to deepen their understanding of the legislative process.
