With a new football season about to kick off, one Bundaberg club is helping its volunteers thanks to funding from the Federal Governmentâs Volunteer Grants Program.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt congratulated Diggers Football Club on its successful grant.
âDiggers were one of 46 organisations across the Hinkler electorate to receive funding from the 2021-22 Volunteer Grant Program,â Mr Pitt said.
âThe club received $3,023 for coaching courses for volunteer coaches, as well as a printer and tablets to be used by coaches to access team sheets for games.
âVolunteers play such an important role in our local sporting clubs like Diggers and the Volunteer Grants Program is all about making it that little bit easier for our volunteers.â
Diggers Football Club president Andrew Halpin said the club is passionate about supporting the volunteers who assist the club.
âProviding coaching courses for our volunteers not only improves the coachâs ability to manage, prepare and deliver sessions, but will also benefit the members who participate in these training sessions,â Mr Halpin said.
âCurrently, clubs are required to access an online platform to submit and print their team sheets for every team and match of the season. By providing our coaches with a device to access this platform and a communal printer to print the required sheets, this necessary process can be completed with ease.
âThe tablets will also allow coaches to utilise the online coaching materials and provide the opportunity for live video demonstrations from the FA coaching resource library.â
The Volunteer Grants Program provides organisations with grants of $1,000 to $5,000 to help purchase equipment, training, and background screening checks for their volunteers.
More than 8.7 million volunteers across the country give their time freely to support their communities.
