Recognising vital work of volunteers in Bundaberg

Monday, 15 April 2019

Volunteering touches all aspects of local communities, whether it be helping out with sporting teams and land care groups, responding to natural disasters and emergencies, or helping charities support some of our most disadvantaged people.

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt is today congratulating organisations in the Bundaberg region which were successful under the $20 million Volunteer Grants program.

“It’s great to see that 40 local organisations across the Hinkler electorate will share in $143,833 to purchase equipment, pay fuel or transport costs and train volunteers,” Mr Pitt said.

“Organisations like Sailability Bundaberg, the Isis RSL Sub-branch and Red Collar Rescue are an important part of the community and the work of their volunteers needs to be recognised.

“The enormous value of volunteering is estimated at $290 billion per year and Australia’s 8.7 million volunteers and their organisations are the backbone of community life.

“Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes – from a casual ‘yes I’ll help at the local fete” through to a regular gig with the many community organisations who work tirelessly to help those in need.

“Volunteers play a critical role in our local communities and I want to extend my thanks to them for their tireless work.”

Mr Pitt hosted a morning tea to thank the volunteers and present certificates to the community organisations.
