Thursday, 7 February 2019

Residents in the southern suburbs of Hervey Bay will have easier and quicker access to the city, with the Madsen Road upgrade set to open next week.

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt and Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Denis Chapman today previewed the $3.4 million project ahead of its anticipated opening next week, weather permitting.

Mr Pitt said Australian Government Roads to Recovery program provided $1.7 million towards this project.

“Approximately 600m of Madsen Road has been widened and realigned which has improved safety for local residents and motorists,” he said.

The Roads to Recovery program provides funding to all local government authorities to assist them to maintain and upgrade their local roads.

Work on Madsen Road will also include service relocations, earthworks, culverts and new kerbs.

Councillor Chapman said Madsen Road was becoming a major artery into the city.

“The suburbs to the south of the city are starting to grow,” he said.

“Madsen Road provides an important link to the health and medical precinct, schools and TAFE as well as the Hervey Bay commercial precinct.”

Cr Chapman thanked the Australian Government for its support in developing infrastructure across the region.
