Twenty up and coming sports stars from across Hervey Bay and Bundaberg have had a helping hand getting them to state and national competitions.

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt congratulated the 20 recipients of the Round 3 Local Sporting Champions program.

“This week I met with some of the Bundaberg recipients who have benefited from this program which provides financial assistance to help athletes who are competing in state championships,” Mr Pitt said.

“It’s great to see our young athletes out there having a go, being selected for state competitions and representing our region.”

The Local Sporting Champions program is for competitors, coaches and officials aged 12-18 to assist with the costs of attending state, national or international championships.

“Competing at this level often involves travelling away and this program assists local families with those costs,” Mr Pitt said.

“Congratulations to all of the recipients and I encourage any local athletes to apply for Round 4 which is accepting applications now.”
