Five sets of siblings are among the 40 recipients of the latest Local Sporting Champions round of funding.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt met with some of the Hervey Bay recipients this week to congratulate them on their successful grant.
âThe Local Sporting Champions and Local Para Sporting Champions programs give our local athletes a financial boost to help with the cost of competing at state, national and international competitions,â Mr Pitt said.
âThe sports represented in the Round 1 2024-25 grants include basketball, AFL, rugby league, triathlon, hockey, athletics, skipping, volleyball, table tennis, soccer, cricket, touch football, surf lifesaving and swimming.
âWe also have Hervey Bay twins Alex and Max Rott who will represent Australia at the NACRA 15 World Championships in Barcelona in October.
âItâs fantastic to see our young athletes being selected to represent the state and nation, and these grants help with the added costs of travelling to compete at this level.
âCongratulations again to all recipients and I encourage local athletes to apply for Round 2 which is taking applications now.â
The Local Sporting Champions program is for competitors, coaches and officials aged 12-18 to assist with the costs of attending state, national or international championships.
