A combined commemorative garden at Bundaberg South State School will provide a place for students, staff and community members to remember Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years of service and fallen soldiers.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt took part in a tree planting at the school today along with students from school.
“Congratulations to Bundaberg South State School on its successful $11,000 grant from the Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee program,” Mr Pitt said.
“This commemorative garden and tree-plantings will create a long-lasting legacy to honour the memory of the Queen as well as provide a space for students to pause, reflect and remember the fallen soldiers during Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services.
“Although there isn’t an official count, the Queen is believed to have planted more than 1600 trees and some of those were during her visits to Australia.
“I hope these trees and garden will flourish to provide a reminder of The Queen’s service to the Commonwealth for the students here today and future students.”
Bundaberg South State School Principal Narelle Clarke said that the combined commemorative garden will provide a place for everyone to honour the Queen who reached the Platinum Jubilee milestone in June 2022 and celebrated her 70 years of service.
“The garden will create a long-lasting legacy for students to remember the fallen soldiers during school ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day services,” Ms Clarke said.
“A big thank you to all of the team: our business manager Jennene Ward for project managing; to David Kresew for coordinating the garden; to Geoff Warren and his workers for construction work of the garden and bringing the design to life with the wood feature; and to the Federal Government for providing the school with an $11,000 grant from the Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee Program.”
Eight local organisations and schools across Hinkler received funding from the Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee program.
