Parents and Children winners in Federal funding announcement

IMPACT Community Services will continue to offer two vitally important programs to local parents and children after being awarded $2.4 million from the Federal Government.

The Government will provide $1.6 million over five years for the Positive Start Parenting Program and $843,005 over two years for the Family Mental Health Support Service.

IMPACT Support Services Manager Danny Leary welcomed the funding announcement by Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt.

“It’s fantastic to have these two programs continue with us,” Mr Leary said.

“We’ve supported and helped hundreds of people over the years. To have these programs funded again is a true indication of how valuable they are to our community and those in need.

“Both services focus on early intervention and prevention so we’re looking to help the younger generations to learn life skills that will help them longer term.”

Mr Pitt congratulated IMPACT on its successful grant applications.

“The grant application process, through the Department of Social Services, is highly competitive,” Mr Pitt said.

“The fact that IMPACT has secured funding for up to five years, demonstrates the program is delivering real outcomes for the Hinkler community.”

The Positive Start Parenting Program, which has been operating since 2004, provides early intervention and prevention services, and resources aimed at improving children’s development and wellbeing and supporting those in a parenting role.

Parenting can be a daunting prospect for some, especially for those who are already facing barriers, but with help from IMPACT staff they will learn new skills, be connected to local services and encouraged to lead an improved life.

The Family Mental Health Support Service, previously known as the Mental Health Carers Support Service, supports children and young people who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of developing mental illness to improve their wellbeing and reach their full potential.

The program helps improve their wellbeing and gets them to better participate in their community. IMPACT offers a wrap-around service to all members of the family.
