Paradise Dam must be repaired and restored, or replaced

Friday, 29 November 2019

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt says if Paradise Dam was decommissioned it would be one of Australia’s biggest ever failures of public infrastructure.

“The Queensland State Labor Government has been in hiding for weeks while residents, growers and businesses in this region have been demanding answers on Paradise Dam.

“Why have these reports taken so long to be released? The report states that all options are being considered which includes decommissioning Australia’s newest dam. This is potentially Australia’s biggest ever failure of public infrastructure.

“It’s ludicrous to think that just a little over 10 years since the dam was commissioned it has such major issues that one of the options the Palaszczuk Government is considering is knocking down the dam wall.

“There is only one option that my community will accept. That is make safe, repair, restore or replace.  Paradise Dam must be returned to its full capacity, and if that is not possible, a new dam facility must be built.

“This region needs water security to continue growing and to be Australia’s premier food bowl.  The inaction by the Palaszczuk Government is putting that all at risk.”

“So I ask the Premier once again: What’s your dam plan?”
