Paradise Dam must be repaired and restored, or replaced
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt says if Paradise Dam was decommissioned it would be one of Australiaâs biggest ever failures of public infrastructure.
âThe Queensland State Labor Government has been in hiding for weeks while residents, growers and businesses in this region have been demanding answers on Paradise Dam.
âWhy have these reports taken so long to be released? The report states that all options are being considered which includes decommissioning Australiaâs newest dam. This is potentially Australiaâs biggest ever failure of public infrastructure.
âItâs ludicrous to think that just a little over 10 years since the dam was commissioned it has such major issues that one of the options the Palaszczuk Government is considering is knocking down the dam wall.
âThere is only one option that my community will accept. That is make safe, repair, restore or replace. Paradise Dam must be returned to its full capacity, and if that is not possible, a new dam facility must be built.
âThis region needs water security to continue growing and to be Australiaâs premier food bowl. The inaction by the Palaszczuk Government is putting that all at risk.â
âSo I ask the Premier once again: Whatâs your dam plan?â
