New opportunity to protect and care for environment
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt is calling for expressions of interest for the new Communities Environment Program giving local organisations further opportunities to protect and care for their local environment.
âCommunity groups in Hinkler are already delivering excellent projects whether itâs planting trees, cleaning up waterways or preventing soil erosion,â he said.
The Communities Environment Program will provide up to $150,000 to the Hinkler electorate in 2019-20 for community-led projects that deliver real environmental and heritage benefits.
âGrants of between $2,500 and $20,000 will be available for local groups to continue that work and support our local environment.
âProjects could include restoring wetlands or waterways, protecting native animals, reducing waste and litter, as well as addressing weeds and pest animals.â
Mr Pitt said eligible organisations include community clubs like Lions clubs and rotary clubs, Landcare groups including âfriends ofâ groups, schools, and other community and conservation groups.
The program builds on the Coalition Governmentâs strong record of investing in grassroots environmental action through initiatives such as our $1 billion National Landcare Program and 20 Million Trees.
