Media Statement: Financial Assistance Grants

Once again, the Queensland State Labor Government is too busy with its own internal issues to address the concerns of local councils on the change to the formula used to distribute Financial Assistance Grants.

Financial Assistance Grant funding allocations to councils in Queensland are decided by the Queensland Local Government Grants Commission and the Queensland State Labor Government.

Any changes to the formula used by the Commission requires approval by the Queensland Government.

The State Labor Members for Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and Maryborough need to stand up for their constituents and take on the State Labor Government.

The Commonwealth Government has increased the Queensland Financial Assistance Grant allocation year on year from 2016‑17 to now, increasing by 18 per cent or $81.5 million over that period, including $531 million to Queensland councils in 2021-22.
