Local road projects missing from Labor’s infrastructure list
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt has called on Bill Shorten to re-confirm his support for the Hinkler Regional Deal and its projects.
“When Bill Shorten visited Bundaberg earlier this year he said he would honour Hinkler’s Regional Deal yet in his announcement today about Labor’s infrastructure plans for Queensland, not one of the regional deal road projects is listed.
“The Coalition Government has committed $85.7 million to important road infrastructure projects in Hinkler as part of the regional deal, yet not one of these has made it onto Mr Shorten’s list.
“Not the $32 million for the Quay Street bypass, the $24 million to flood-proof Torbanlea Pialba Road or the $4 million for overtaking lanes on the Isis Highway between Bundaberg and Childers.
“Nor is the $10 million safety upgrade for the Buxton Road intersection on the Bruce Highway, the $8 million upgrade of Bargara Road/Princess Street or the $7.7 million to extend Urraween Road through to Boundary Road in Hervey Bay anywhere on his list.
“I know how important it is for this critical infrastructure is to move this region forward, and we’ve put the money on the table, where is the leader of the Labor Party’s commitment? Or once again does he say one thing in Brisbane and something different in Bundaberg?”
