Keith Pitt MP Federal Member for HINKLER

Keeping veterans connected in Hinkler

Two veterans’ organisations in the Hinkler electorate have been successful in funding applications to the Veterans and Community Grants program.

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt congratulated the Veterans of Australia Association and Camp Gregory Veterans Retreat.

“The Veteran and Community Grants program aims to enrich the lives of Australian ex-service men and women and help them to remain independent, healthy and active, in particular for those who may live alone,” Mr Pitt said.

“Veterans of Australia Association, based in Hervey Bay, will receive $4,863.10 to develop a monthly newsletter to increase members’ awareness of available community support services.

“Camp Gregory Veterans Retreat, located near Woodgate, will receive $20,886.60 to construct a ramp for disability access to bathroom facilities and to purchase a defibrillator.

“These organisations play an important role in supporting the veteran community, and it’s great to see these projects get off the ground with funding from the Federal Government,” Mr Pitt said.

Veterans of Australia Association committee member and East Timor Veteran, Ryan Simpson said our newsletter program aims to increase awareness of community support services available to our Veterans whilst communicating health and wellbeing messages to our local veteran community.

Camp Gregory Veterans Retreat President, Roger Dwyer said there is no cost to stay at Camp Gregory Veterans Retreat which provides a place of respite for veterans and their families.

“Camp Gregory is a place where veterans and their families can interact through conversation, social interaction, BBQ's, fishing, crabbing and other recreational activities.”

Ex-service and community organisations, veteran representative groups, private organisations and projects that promote improved independence and quality of life for veterans are eligible for funding through the Veteran and Community Grants program.

Applications are accepted continuously throughout the year up to 28 February 2019.
