Isis Pool upgrade warms up swimmers
Residents of Childers and surrounding areas will be able to take a dip all year round with the Isis War Memorial Swimming Pool Complex now heated.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt officially opened the heated pool today although it has already had a lot of use over the school holidays.
âIâm pleased the Federal Government was able to contribute $300,000 towards the upgrade of the pool which can now be utilised year round and provide important protection from the sun,â Mr Pitt said.
âThe heated pool will also allow patients with physical ailments to undertake low-resistance rehabilitation and year-round hydro-therapy.â
The upgrade at Isis War Memorial Swimming Pool included the installation of heat pumps, a PV solar system to offset electricity costs and a roof structure over the swimming pool.
Bundaberg Mayor Jack Dempsey said the upgrade would provide the local community with a facility that encourages recreational and competitive use over a longer period.
âThis is a key project for the local community,â he said.
âThe upgrade to the Childers Pool will include heating in addition to the roof covering which provides an all-weather and sun-safe aspect.â
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Australian Governmentâs $300,000 investment in community infrastructure would provide long term benefits to the Bundaberg region.
âIn addition to providing healthy activities in an inclusive community facility, this project also produced economic benefits to the region as it supported a total of 30 jobs both directly and indirectly,â Mr McCormack said.
This project received $300,000 in funding from the Australian Government under the Community Development Grant programme. Bundaberg Regional Council provided $1.3 million and Bendigo Bank the remaining $100,000 towards the project.
