Cool upgrade for Wide Bay Gymnastics
An upgrade to facilities at Wide Bay Gymnastics Club will see a new kitchen installed and new fans to cool the training facility.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt congratulated the club on its two successful grant applications.
“The Club will receive $180,514 from the second round of the Community Sports Infrastructure program to install ceiling and wall insulation and 10 large commercial ceiling fans,” Mr Pitt said.
“This was a very competitive funding round and I’m pleased to see local sporting clubs among the recipients.
“An additional $8,252 from the Stronger Communities program will upgrade the kitchen at the training facility.
“Sport plays an important role across the Hervey Bay region and the benefits of the Coalition Government’s investment in the facilities will be felt right across the community,” he said.
Wide Bay Gymnastics Club vice-president Linda Ryan said the funding would mean significant improvements at the centre.
“As well as making it cooler for our local members and competitors, we will install a 31.2KW Solar System with battery storage to produce and save energy to significantly reduce our Club's electricity costs.
“Increased participation of community groups such as local dance schools and junior school programs at the club means the kitchen is being used constantly.
“The new kitchen will enable the club to continue hosting children’s healthy activity parties, competition and community events which attract visitors to the city,” Ms Ryan said.
The Stronger Communities Program offered eligible community groups grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 for small capital projects. All applications needed to commit at least matching funding or in-kind contributions.
