$1.7 million for Madsen Road upgrade

A major upgrade to Madsen Road in Urraween is progressing well and expected to be completed in the New Year.

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said the upgrade had been identified by the Fraser Coast Regional Council as a priority project.

“The Australian Government Roads to Recovery program has provided $1.7 million towards this project, which will widen and realign approximately 600m of Madsen Road, between Morgen Circuit to south of Windsor Way,” Mr Pitt said.

“Upgrades to roads such as this one makes it safer for not only motorists, but also local residents.”

The Roads to Recovery program provides funding to all local government authorities to assist them to maintain and upgrade their local roads.

Work on Madsen Road will also include service relocations, earthworks, culverts and new kerbs.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Denis Chapman said the $3.4 million project improved access to the city from the growing southern suburbs.

“Madsen Road is a major access to the city for the growing southern suburbs as well as the Sports Precinct and Nikenbah transfer station and recycling centre,” he said.

“It is fantastic that with the Federal Government we are able to provide these facilities to keep pace with the growth of the region.”
