Child’s play for Christsen Park Redevelopment

Bargara residents have gathered today for the official opening of the completed Christsen Park Redevelopment project, with the revitalisation of the park to provide a much welcome modern green space for families and community events.

Attending the opening, Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said Christsen Park had been transformed into a great location for family and community gatherings which includes modern play spaces, walking tracks and cooking facilities.

"Christsen Park is in a stunning location where children can play on the new equipment, then go for a swim at the adjacent Basin Lagoon on hot summer days," Minister Nash said.

"I aim to build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren want to either stay in or come back to, and providing first class recreation facilities is key to that."

Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said the Coalition Government was pleased to partner with Bundaberg Regional Council to deliver much needed community infrastructure along with an important boost to the local economy.

"The park upgrade created 23 local jobs during construction and this is in addition to the potential increase in spending from visitors to the Basin and Kelly’s Beach area," Mr Pitt said.

"The new facilities include four shelter sheds, dedicated play areas for children, a barbecue area with seating, an amenities block, and pathways and landscaping."

Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor Jack Dempsey said the project, through its redesign, has provided a safe recreation environment for the families who are utilising it as well as

an economic stimulus for the many local contractors and suppliers who engaged with the Christsen Park redevelopment.

"Christsen Park is another example of federal support funding allowing Council to get on with the job of providing infrastructure and facilities for the benefit of visitors and locals alike," Cr Dempsey said.

This $851,078 project was jointly funded by the Coalition Government ($401,078) and Bundaberg Regional Council ($450,000).
